Women and Money

Suze Orman, in her best book to date, explains barriers unique to women that interfere with their ability to optimize their finances. She shares her personal story from waitress to best-selling author and successful businesswoman, and provides a step-by-step plan to financial freedom for women.

Transitioning from being an employee to being independent

Best-selling author Robert T. Kiyosaki is an essential resource for anyone wanting to gain a better, practical understanding of money and business.

In "Before You Quit Your Job," written with Sharon L. Lechter, C.P.A., Kiyosaki walks through real-life lessons for entrepreneurs. The book is not directed to any particular business or profession, but gives invaluable advice and insight on the entire process of transitioning from being an employee to working for yourself.

Kiyosaki's original book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" is also excellent.

Women lawyers and work-life balance books

These two books are excellent reads for women lawyers trying to find work-life balance.

“Ending the Gauntlet: Removing Barriers to Women’s Success in the Law,” Thomson Legalworks, March 2006 - This book contains a detailed analysis of the problems that women lawyers face in the legal workplace and describes actions that law firms should take to level the playing field for women in the legal profession.

“It’s Harder in Heels: Essays by Women Lawyers Achieving Work-Life Balance,” Vandeplas Publishing, July 2007 - This book contains first-person essays about women lawyers and their experiences in trying to find balance in their lives. Some are from local San Diego attorneys.
